Career Resource Project
My project is on Computer Programming this is what I have chosen to be my career. When I began to chose a career I tried to chose something that I would enjoy doing and computers are one of my favorite interests. As we are fast approaching the new millennium computers are becoming part of our every day life. As we develop new technology they will become even more important. This is why I think this is an excellent field to be involved in. Although computers have been around for a while they have just began to get popular with the general public within the last couple of years. Computers offer a wide range of uses for the general public from accessing information to chatting with someone across the globe. In the business world companies rely on computers to perform various tasks such as store data, to process information and to output results. Computers are only as smart as you make them. With out specific instructions the computer will not perform the tasks that you may want them to. These specific instructions are called programs or software.

There is an abundance of software available but if you can not find any to fit your specific
needs then this is where the programmer comes into the picture. The programmer gets information from the user on what they need the computer to do for them and then they write the programs to perform these tasks. The users can be either individuals or business's. Most people are not that interested in learning how to write these programs they just want to be able to use them. Therefore I think that the demand will always be greater than the supply of programmers. While doing research for this project I found out that most programming positions start out at about 50,000 a year if your working for a company. I would like to work for a big company plus develop my own programs for other interests and maybe sell them to the general public. I think this career choice fits my  lifestyle very well with the work required for this field will be done indoors hopefully in the air-conditioning with a nice comfortable chair to sit in since I'm not much into physical labor. Although there are a lot of interesting careers in the world of computers I think this one will be the best for me. This occupation does require alot of time and mental strain so as to not interfere with my family life I would try to do my work while I'm at my place of work and develop my own programs as a hobby. This career is also offered at most all major colleges and even after my degree is obtained I know that this field is an ever changing one and I will need to keep educating myself.
